Ahhhh, nothing quite beats the taste of a steaming hot, freshly brewed coffee on a cold, dark Monday morning.

I’ve had my fair share of very good coffee over during my stint in the land Down Under. In fact, I’d even go as far to say that it’s some of the best these thirty-something taste buds have ever experienced. I’m new to the adult coffee playground, and I wear my newbie badge with the requisite humility.

Anyway, let’s get to the point; I’ve found myself pondering over many a macchiato of late, and during these coffee-based thought spirals my brain has started to draw some unlikely comparisons. Coffee and copy, it turns out, are similar in more than just phonetics.

Espresso

Short, snappy and gets the job done. Think attention-grabbing email subject lines, memorable brand slogans and stop-you-in-your-tracks advertising straplines.

Americano

The bread and butter of the copy world, you'll struggle to function without it. Product descriptions, About pages and customer newsletters all come under your daily dose of copy caffeine

Cappuccino

A solid basis with a fun, fluffy finish. I’m talking SEO blog posts with some witty pun-based headings thrown in, or a how-to guide laced with topical humour to increase reader engagement.

Pumpkin spiced latte

It's rolled out once a year and is all anyone can talk about for a few weeks, only to be promptly forgotten when the next big thing comes along. Annual Company Report, I’m looking at you...
